ECCNA XXIV Program Draft

GRATITUDE INTO ACTION

12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous

  1. We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
  2. We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
  3. We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
  4. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
  5. We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
  6. We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
  7. We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
  8. We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
  9. We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
  10. We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
  11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him,praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Welcome

Welcome to East Coast Convention XXIV hosted by East of the Bay and Bay Areas of NA.  We return to Washington College to put our “Gratitude Into Action” & host the first “post” COVID pandemic East Coast Convention.  The purpose of the East Coast Convention is to make accessible a convention that is cost effective for newcomers and to supply the Basic Text to jails and prisons.

Covid statement

For the safety of this group and campus staff we require everyone to continue to wear face coverings in all indoor locations.  Individuals that have been fully vaccinated against covid-19 may remove their face mask for the duration of this meeting, once settled. We take the well-being of all attending this convention very seriously and we hope you do too. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Registration Statement

Our Seventh Tradition states, “Being self-supporting is an important part of our new way of life.” (Basic Text, Page 70, Sixth Edition). Registration fees pay for the facilities we are using, the entertainment we are enjoying, and all other expenses related to putting on this convention. While we will not turn anyone away who cannot afford to pay, you must register at the Registration Booth located in the Gibson Center Lobby.  Accordingly, registration bracelets must be worn at all times and are needed to gain access to all meetings and entertainment.  All profits from the East Coast Convention go towards purchasing Basic Texts for jails and prisons on the East Coast.

Anonymity Statement / Press Statement

In accordance with our public relations policy we recognize it is a common practice for members to take photos and videos at NA events and post them on social networks.  We do not believe this to be in conflict with our traditions so long as they are for the enjoyment of members and not made available to the general public.  Please be considerate of our guiding principles and the anonymity of others as you share your photos and videos from East Coast Convention of NA 24.

Behavior Statement

Every member of NA has a role in helping us carry the message to the still-suffering addict.  Much of the goodwill that exists between NA and the community at large is based on the relationships that we develop and maintain as NA members. We can improve these relationships by taking care to treat others with courtesy and respect.  Therefore , in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of our recovery program we ask you to be polite, don’t use profanity, and show respect for the Washington College by wearing your shirts & shoes in public areas at all times.  If unable to conduct yourself responsibly, you will be asked to leave.

Smoking & vaping is allowed in designated areas only and never inside any of the buildings or campus housing.  No food or drink other than water is allowed in Gibson Hall.  Be prepared as it will be enforced.

Clarity Statement

We are presented with a dilemma. When NA members identify themselves as addicts and alcoholics or talk about living “clean and sober;” the clarity of the NA message is blurred. To speak in this manner suggests that there are two diseases; that one drug is separate from the rest. Narcotics Anonymous makes no distinction between drugs. Our identification as ADDICTS is all-inclusive, allowing us to concentrate on our similarities, not our differences.

Twelve Traditions of NA

We keep what we have only with vigilance, and just as freedom for the individual comes from the Twelve Steps, so freedom for the group springs from our Traditions. As long as the ties that bind us together are stronger than those that would tear us apart, all will be well.

  1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends on NA unity.
  2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority—a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.
  3. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.
  4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or NA as a whole.
  5. Each group has but one primary purpose—to carry the message to the addict who still suffers.
  6. An NA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the NA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, or prestige divert us from our primary purpose.
  7. Every NA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
  8. Narcotics Anonymous should remain forever nonprofessional, but our service centers may employ special workers.
  9. NA, as such, ought never be organized, but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.
  10. Narcotics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the NA name ought never be drawn into public controversy.
  11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films.
  12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

Keep coming back!

See you next year at ECCNA 25 in Virginia!!
